Firecracker Designs Blog Hop - The "POP" Challenge!

Firecracker Designs BLOG HOP!!

Inspired by an article in a Paper Crafts special issue magazine, called "Cards, Gifts, and More", Pamela issued a challenge to the design team....The "POP" challenge! Each of us was to make a simple card then mail it to another member of the design team. That person would then add or change the card in some way to make it "POP". We were to take a simple card and try to make it extra special.

I didn't think this challenge sounded that bad until I got the "simple" card from the fabulously talented Vicki Parson. It was sweet and lovely and simple as is and I didn't want to screw anything up. I put it on my stamp table and just looked at it for a couple days. Besides coloring the poinsettias, I wasn't sure what to do. I honestly thought it looked just lovely as is. I was nervous about adding anything because I didn't want her to hate it! Once I found the guts to start adding I found a few things that I thought looked fabulous with it...I hope she feels the same! So here they are:

Vicki's lovely simple card:
and
Vicki's card with my "POP" additions:
I added red rhinestones to the corners, colored and popped up the poinsettias with foam dimensionals, popped up the square with the poinsettias with foam dimensionals, added some ribbon and stamped some holly leaves on the green cardstock.
What do you think?

So now here is my simple card that I made. I have to tell you, I don't do simple very well at all. It was really hard for me to not cover this with glitter or rhinestones or brads or something. I can't wait to see what Julie did with this! To see it's "POP" version check out Julie's blog HERE

Make sure you do the full Blog Hop and check out all of the "POP" cards because Pamela will be giving away some great blog candy at the end on her blog!!

After the Blog Hop make sure to stop back here for my 2nd World Card Making Day challenge. The prize up grabs for this challenge is a GORGEOUS stamp set from Firecracker Designs!! I will post challenge #2 at 12:00 pm CST! I look forward to seeing you then!

CHALLENGE #1: SILVER AND GOLD!
Since it is pretty early in the morning for a lot of you, I thought I would start you off with an easy one. For this challenge you need to make a card or project using either gold or silver. Gold or Silver do not need to be the main color (but they can be) they just need to be used somewhere on the card. This could mean using silver or gold brads, cord, paper, etc. etc. The possibilities are endless! Have fun!
Remember, you need to post a link to your project on THIS blog post to be eligible to win!

Here is my example. I just got my new set of QKD stamps yesterday and I just love this little alien; isn't she just adorable!
Supplies used for my card: SU black and SU brushed silver cardstock as well as some DP from DCWV. I also used a transparency sheet to make the ships capsule look like glass. The stamp is from QKD and the sentiment is a rub-on from Joann's. The pink stars are from Making Memories.

The prize up for grabs for this challenge is this wonderful clear stamp set from Queen Kat Designs called: Greetings Stamps #1

I will have 2 other challenges this afternoon with prizes from Firecracker Designs by Pamela and DRS Designs, as well as a Firecracker Designs blog hop, so please stop back!

I'm on a challenge roll!

I got to stamp 3 days in a row...I can't believe it! Today I did the "Ways To Use It" challenge on SCS. Today's challenge was to use a quote on your project. Right away I thought of this quote from DRS Designs. I LOVE butterfly stamps and this quote gave me to perfect excuse to ink up a butterfly that I have never used before. Along with following the quote challenge I also used the same sketch from yesterday's SC196 sketch challenge.

Supplies used: Stamps from DRS Designs, SU CS, Basic Grey DP, Rain Dots, Art Institute Lion's Mane glitter, Martha Stewart ribbon, foam dimensionals.

Thanks for stopping by today! Don't forget that Saturday is World Card Making Day! Starting at 8 am CST I will be posting stamping challenges with a chance to win FABULOUS prizes! Stop by anytime. I will have 3 challenges that I will post throughout the day and you will have until midnight to get them done. The Firecracker Designs by Pamela design team will also be having a blog hop on Saturday starting at 10 am CST and you definitely won't want to miss that. We participated in a fun challenge and I can't wait to show you the results! I hope you all have a wonderful day!

I made a challenge card!!!

I think this is the first time EVER that I have done a SCS color challenge while it was current. I had planned on taking a nap while the kids were at preschool today but for some reason my stamp room was calling my name. Today the challenge colors were Really Rust, Chocolate Chip and Baja Breeze (but you could substitue Bordering Blue, which is what I had to do).
I thought the colors made for a perfect fall card. In addition to doing a color challenge I also used an old SCS sketch SC118. I colored my image with colored pencils and OMS and then to give just the pumpkins and apples a shiney look I painted them with Angel Wings Shimmerz.
Here is a close-up of one of the pumpkins so you can see the shimmer (it was hard to see in the full photo)
Supplies used: Stamps from DRS Designs, SU CS, colored pencils/OMS, Dress it Up glitter dots, Shimmerz.

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you are all having a great day!

World Card Making Day is almost here!!!!

I am battling a terrible, nasty virus right now so no stamping for me for a few days. I want to make sure that I get lots of rest so I'm healthy before Saturday. Why by Saturday you ask, well if you didn't know it, Saturday is World Card Making Day! Join in the fun with card makers all over the world to participate in the kick off of the holiday card-making season. Now in its third year, World Card Making Day is a day to connect with fellow card makers around the globe and to celebrate the creativity and joy of this craft! I am planning on stamping from morning til night on Saturday.

DRS Desigsn blog challenge #5

Today is the 5th DRS Designs blog challenge... "anything but a card". The challenge will run for two weeks but there is no time limit to participate. You are welcome to play along at any time! If you do participate (we would love it if you did!) be sure to come back and post a link to your creation so we can come take a look! If you upload to an online gallery, please use the keyword: DRSC5.

The design team really outdid themselves for this challenge...check out the rest of teams creations HERE

For my project I chose to make an altered domino keychain. A few weeks ago my blogging friend Danyelle asked for stamped donations to fill a little mailbox to send to her Divine Secret Sister who just returned to teaching after going through cancer treatment. The mailbox isn't huge so she asked for small items. I thought this would be the perfect item for me to send. I started with a standard size domino. Using a fine sanding block, I sanded the smooth surface and had my husband drill a hole in the corner. I stamped my image on the domino using Palette Noir ink (I usually use Stazon, but I wanted to color this image with alcohol markers and the stazon will bleed). I slightly heat set it (you don't usually have to do this if you use Stazon) and then very carefully colored the image. Then using Tombow Mono Aqua glue, I covered the entire top of the domino, sprinkled some glitter on and let it dry overnight. The next morning I painted the edge with a silver leafing pen and I added the chain.
Thanks for stopping by today! Don't forget to check out the DRS Designs blog to see what the rest of the design team made! Have a great day!
